Greetings from Mikael Lindqvist, Commodore HSF

Tomorrow is a big day, so the Open Week will start and open up the European Class World Championship races. This is the first time the competition is held in Hanko. What makes Hanko so special and the best place to hold the event this year?

That’s a good question actually. I think one good reason is that, if you look at the map, Hanko is on a peninsula, where you have water on more than three sides of the city. So we have open waters and mostly clear blue skies.

Would you have any hints and tips for the sailors to navigate these waters here?

Well, that’s a tricky question, but if I give a simple answer, look after the clouds and how they move (if there are any), and that can give you a hint of from where the winds are blowing – and try to do your best when you are competing out there.

Good luck for all sailors and enjoy the race.
