Results from Europe Class Open Week in Hanko

In the Europe Class Open Week competitions that concluded in Hanko this past weekend, 15 sailors secured a place in the World Championships to be sailed this upcoming week.

The Europe Class Worlds are held over two weeks. During Open Week, those sailors who were not selected through national qualification can compete for a place in the World Championships to be sailed this upcoming week.

In the Open Week competition, 51 sailors from 6 countries participated. Anna Livbjerg (DEN) ended first followed by Cyril Richard (FRA) and Oskari Laurila (FIN). After Open Week qualifiers, altogether 91 competitors have secured a place for the World Championships.

“Open Week started in very light winds, but after the first windless day, all the planned eight races were successfully sailed. Overall, the competitions went well, adhering to the sailing rules, and no protests were filed during the week. Thanks to the sailors for this “, says Mikael Lindqvist, commodore of Hangö Segelförening (HSF).

The actual World Championships will be sailed from July 30 to August 3. The race center is in Hanko Eastern Harbor. The organizers are Hangö Segelförening (HSF) and the Finnish Europe Class Association. Main sponsor is Škoda Finland, and the around-the-world sailor Tapio Lehtinen is the official patron of the event.

Europe Class, is an internationally respected dinghy class in which sailing is done at junior, senior, and master levels. Europe Class was an Olympic class until 2004. Europe Class dinghy is fast, agile and fun to sail. Currently, there are several hundreds of actively competing Europe Class sailors around the world.
